Fantastic
Day for Youth Sides City's
U-16s won the Scottish Cup today beating Leith Athletic by two goals
to one at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium. Following on from last year's
success at U-13 level, today's victory for Ross McNeil's side further strengthens City's reputation within Youth football. Meanwhile
John Green's all conquering U-19 side won their second cup of the
season - the Challenge Cup - with an emphatic 9-1 victory over
Easthouses. With the league all but won it has been a remarkable
season. The team have won every East of Scotland match they have
contested and are scoring goals for fun - 24 in the last two games
alone!
Six
players from the U-19 squad have already signed for the next year's
senior team and although their integration into the first team might
take a season or so the future is very promising especially when you
consider the age groups beneath have plenty of talented players too.

City
U19s beat their Berwick Rangers counterparts 6-1 today at Meadowbank.
The youngsters maintained the rich vein of form that has seen them win
all their games in the East of Scotland this season. Goal scorers
today were Ian McFarland (2), Robbie Dunn, Ross Guthrie, Danny Denholm
and Ryan Wilson. A friendly against the renowned
Wallsend Boys Club from the north east of England has been arranged

Watt
Win Welcome
City
managed to break the poor run of results with a victory at home to
Heriot Watt University.
Makeshift striker Stephen Mullen put City ahead with a well struck
shot from 12 yards out. But as has happened in many games of late City
were unable to defend the lead until half time. Norwegian striker Lars
Berger with his back to goal was given space to turn before firing
home from 10 yards. City had the better of the second half and they
got their just reward when Jordan Caddow clipped the ball around the
Watt keeper midway through the second half.

Team News
City's U19s opened their league campaign with a victory at Fernieside
against Tynecastle. Coming off the back of an 8-1 defeat recently
Tynecastle made City work a lot harder with the visitors eventually
running out 3-0 winners. At
U16 level Ross McNeil's side have made it through to the last four of
the Scottish Cup after defeating Dundee United 4-0 at Sighthill. This
is a fantastic achievement and we wish the lads all the best in the
semi final against Clark Drive Boys Club.

It's
all Academic as City are Defeated Again
Edinburgh University defeated City at Meadowbank last night. City had
started the brighter and created a number of chances before Peter
Stenhouse blasted home from eight yards out. The home side continued
to dominate, Steven Clee saw a powerful shot well saved while Jordan
Hall hit the crossbar with a long range effort. City's failure to bury
their chances again came back to haunt them and almost unbelievably
they found themselves trailing at half time by two goals to one. You
could visibly see the confidence drain from the home side and
their second half efforts were not a patch on the first although did
not deserve to lose a further two goals. The game was was ideal
preparation for a Uni side who are back at the stadium this Sunday for
the SFA Challenge Cup final. Meanwhile City head to Peebles on
Saturday hoping to get back to winning ways.

City
Pay Penalty for Speed Lapses
City were today beaten by Civil Service Strollers at Meadowbank. The
League Cup tie had started brightly enough for City and they took the
lead when Jordan Hall headed home a Dougie Gair corner. However an
inexplicable push by Jamie Speed in the penalty area changed the game.
Paul Lynch scored from the spot and it wasn't long before he was
repeating the feat after Speed again was the sinner blocking a cross
with his hand. Although City had the bulk of possession throughout the
second half they failed to create many clear cut chances. Strollers
will now face Lothian Thistle in the next round.

City
Fail to Convert Chances at Riccarton
It was again a case of chances missed as City failed to capitalise
against Heriot Watt last night at Riccarton. The first half was fairly
uneventful bar the torrential rain. The second burst into life from
the outset and City created a number of chances. Eventually Jordan
Caddow finished off a fine move poking the ball home from ten yards.
However the University side equalised when City failed to clear a
corner and then allowed Patterson cut inside onto his right foot. The
winger curled the ball over the head of Duncan Monteith from 20 yards
out. Despite continuing to dominate it City could not find the net to
get the victory their second half performance deserved.

Five
Star Show from Citizens
City broke a winless run in the league with a convincing victory at
Yarrow Park, Selkirk. Quickly into their stride City had missed a few
opportunities before Jordan Hall scored following a mixed up in the
Selkirk defence. Hall had the opportunity to increase the lead from
the penalty spot, but his spot kick was easily saved. Within a minute
the home side who had threaten little up to that point were level.
City continued to push forward and were soon in front again when
centre half Michael Bruce headed his fifth goal of the season from a
Kevin Morrison corner. Dougie Gair scored from a free kick to make it
3-1 at half time. City continued to dominate in the second half a
Jordan Caddow brace seemed scant reward for their
efforts.

City lost by a solitary goal last night to Whitehill Welfare. Kidd

Despite leading two nil at half time (Flanagan & Clee) City

City created a number of very good chances in the first half and could
have been out of sight at half time. Steven Clee had a number of

opportunities neither could find the back of the net.

After two months without a game the City 19s continued where they had
left off in November with another victory, this time it was Spartans
who were put to the sword at Ainslie Park. Leading 2-1 at half time
courtesy of goals from Shaun Harrison and Danny Denholm. City went on
to score a further four goals on the excellent artificial surface.
Peter Stenhouse, Ross Guthrie, Ian McFarland and Robbie Dunn were
City's scorers in the second half as they ran out 6-3 derby winners.

Late
Winner Leaves City Seeing Stars
Dalbeattie Star continued their good run of form with a win over City
at Meadowbank Stadium. City twice fought back from a goal down
equalising for the second time in the 92nd minute. Star managed to find
a winner less than a minute later when a Kenny Ross clearance was
blocked by Gary Redpath twenty yards out and spun over the Duncan
Monteith in the City goal. It was heartbreaking stuff for City who had
barely stopped celebrating Jordan Hall's goal. Star
had taken the lead on 30 minutes when Jack Steel shot home at the back
post following a corner from the right. City's best chances in the
first half had fallen to Michael Bruce, a couple of headers and shot
from 25 yards that was well held. Twenty minutes into the second half
the young centre half found the net with a header from a Dougie Gair
freekick. Dalbeattie took the lead when Lewis Sloan slotted home a
penalty awarded for a mistimed Kenny Ross tackle. City
kept on pressing a when a well struck shot from Jordan Caddow was
parried out as far as Jordan Hall the freescoring midfielder made no
mistake from 12 yards. Redpath's fortuitous winner was a real kick in
the teeth for a City side that deserved at least a point from the
game. City
don't have to wait long to try to gain revenge for their first league
defeat of the season as some rather quirky fixturing sees the Citizens
traveling down to Dalbeattie this weekend.

Easthouses
Lily No Match for Depleted City
City were missing three players through suspension on top of losing
the services of leading goalscorer Robbie Ross in the week it
was an unfamiliar line-up that took the field against Easthouses.
City
started the game brightly into the very strong wind taking the lead on
nine minutes when Jordan Caddow managed to nick in front of
Lily's keeper heading the ball home from six yards. Easthouses pressed
forward aided by the gale at their backs although City remained
dangerous on break and probably had the better opportunities. However
on 39 minutes Lily's Baigrie latched on to a poor clearance
sending a looping shot over Duncan Monteith into the net from 25
yards.
With
the wind behind them in the second half City dominated for long spells
failing to convert a number of clear cut chances before a forceful
run and cross down the left on 75 minutes by Dougie Gair was rewarded
when a Lily defender attempting to clear bundled the ball over the
line. City sealed victory when Ross Macnamara scored his first goal of
the season following a Ross Guthrie corner on 85 minutes.

Robbie
Ross Signs for Arbroath
Robbie Ross has left City to join SFL Division Two side Arbroath. Last
season's top scorer had been subject of much speculation after an
approach from Linlithgow Rose in the
summer was rebuffed. Robbie has continued to
bang in the goals this season and it was no surprise when Arbroath
came calling, giving him a crack at Scottish League Football.
Robbie
goes with the club's best wishes and I am sure the Arbroath scores and
scorers will be scrutinised that bit more closely in the City Club
after games.

Lose Out to Whitehill in Image Printers Final
City have contrived to lose a number of finals in the last few years
and today they shot themselves in the foot as the brothers Hall both
saw red in the second half.
City
took the lead in the second minute when Steven Clee followed in to tap
home after his initial penalty attempt had been saved. Whitehill
scored a deserved equaliser on 27 minutes when Haynes fired home at
the back post. City had a penalty claim denied when Jordan Hall
seemed to be flattened by the Welfare keeper. The game was to hinge on
penalty decisions and Whitehill were the beneficiaries on 50 minutes
when following a Michael Bruce challenge the referee pointed to the
spot. Within a minute of the resulting penalty hitting the back of
the net City were down to nine men and seemingly down and out.
They
say that it can be difficult to play against ten men, but Whitehill
were finding City's nine hot to handle. Dougie Gair in particular was
having a great game and when he was brought down in the box all eyes
turned to the referee who immediately booked him for diving much to
the disbelief of the majority of the crowd. The referee then
consulted the far side linesman who had flagged for the penalty, but
his decision stood and with it went any chance City might have had.
Whitehill took advantage of a short Kenny Ross back pass to take a 3-1
lead. Dougie Gair scored a great solo goal his play deserved in injury
time.
Although
it was heroic stuff from the nine men, City were left to rue
individual indiscipline and that penalty decision! Congratulations go
to Whitehill on lifting the first silverware of the season.

Whitehill
Fixture Announced
City have an extra fixture before Christmas. Whitehill Welfare will be
the visitors for a Premier Division game on Wednesday 10th December.
The match originally scheduled for early October is a welcome addition
for both clubs as they are behind in terms of games played in the
league.
Even
with this addition to the schedule City will play a maximum of five
league matches before Christmas. We have lost four games to
postponements which is probably about the average in a season that has
seen a record number of cancellations. Our success in cup competitions
allied to the games lost to the weather is causing a fixture backlog.
It looks like being a busy second half to the season!

Doubts Ahead of the Brechin Game
A number of City regulars are struggling for fitness with the Cup game

Gets his Hands on the Scottish Cup
Robbie
Ross managed to do what most footballers can only dream of when
he lifted the Homecoming Scottish Cup. Unfortunately for him (&
City) his dalliance with the trophy didn't come on cup final day at
Hampden, but a rather more humdrum Wednesday in Princes Street. Robbie
was helping to promote the competition ahead of this weekend's third
round.
Looking
forward to our game on Saturday, he said, "The Scottish Cup is
the biggest competition we play in so to face a league side is a great
opportunity for us to show we can perform at that level. A lot of
people take more interest when it is the Cup, a lot more fans
certainly claim they are going to come along.
“But
a lot don’t appreciate how good a team Brechin are, they think we
have a good chance of beating them. They don’t realise this is going
to be one of the toughest games we have played."

Robbie
Ross scored a very late winner today as City saw off a resilient
Gretna 2008 team. City had been two goals to the good early in the
second half
courtesy of an own goal and a Dougie Gair strike. The hosts pulled a
goal back 25 minutes from time. Gretna then had a man sent off in the
75th minute. Ignoring the numerical imbalance the home side scored an
equaliser two minutes from time. The visitors replied immediately when
Robbie scored his 15th goal of the season ensuring City's passage to the
final.

City
Blown Away in Challenge Cup
After
last seasons run to the final City lost out at the
quarter final stage of the 2008/09 SFA Challenge Cup against
Edinburgh University. At a very windy Peffermill the students made
good use of the elements to put the City goal under threat in the
first half. They took the lead inside five minutes when a shot
from outside the area looped off a City defender's head and the
backpedaling Duncan Monteith was unable to turn the ball over the bar.
Striker Peder Beck-Friis has been a thorn in City's side in the past and today was no
exception. The Swedish forward scored the second goal on 20 minutes when a long
freekick wasn't cleared by the defence and he slotted home
from 10 yards.
City
had been playing reasonably well against a very gusty wind,
but only had one Jordan Hall attempt to show for their efforts which
was palmed away for a corner. On 33 minutes there was a sense of deja vu about the
Uni's third goal as yet again a long freekick deceived
the Citizens and ex-City youth McFarlane shot home from inside the
area. Uni full back Fusco was sent off on 40 minutes after he struck out at
Dougie Gair.
Despite
a lot of pressure and chances in the opening 20 minutes of the second
half City failed to convert. Gair's wind assisted freekick from
30 yards sailed into the top corner on 74 minutes but City could not
add to their tally and the Uni saw the game out without too much
trouble.

Youngsters Maintain Perfect Record
City U19s picked themselves up

overwhelmed Lothian Thistle 8-0 in tonight's League Cup match at Meadowbank Stadium. The
young Citizens were four goals up at half time thanks to strikes from
Ross Guthrie (2), Peter Stenhouse and Blair Stevenson, his first

adding a further two goals to take his season's tally to 12. Stevenson
and Ian McFarland completed the scoring as City retained their 100%

U19s
fail to Rock Dumbarton in Youth Cup
Dumbarton
progressed to the last sixteen of the SFA Youth Cup this afternoon at
the expense of City's U19s. On a cold day John Green's team took time to get into
the game and were two goals down inside 30
minutes. Robbie Dunn scored from the penalty spot just before half
time after he had been fouled in the area to bring City back into the
game.
A
change of formation at half time saw Peter Stenhouse revert to his
familiar striking role and he came close to equalising early in the
second half his shot from 12 yards rebounding off the crossbar.
Dumbarton regained their two goal advantage in the 65th minute and
although City battled on they were finding it difficult to create
chances against a resolute Dumbarton side. Danny Denholm had the ball
in the net in the 80th minute but his headed effort was ruled out for
an apparent push. Ian McFarland scored a spectacular scissor kick goal
from a corner late on but it proved scant consolation as it ended 3-2
to the young Sons.
