Following our opening day win against Albion Rovers, we travel north to face Elgin City on Saturday 11 August. Kick off at Boroughbriggs is 3:00pm.
Opponents: Elgin City
Our opponents opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Annan Athletic, with Brian Cameron equalising in the closing stages for Elgin. They are likely to feature former City skipper Craig Beattie tomorrow. Beatts signed for Elgin following his release from City in the summer, having had a great, if injury interupted 2017/18 season with us. This week has seen the 125th anniversary of the formation of Elgin City and we would like to congratulate them on reaching this milestone, although hopefully we can postpone the celebrations until after tomorrow’s match!
Elgin City has both ground and seated sections, with adults priced £12 / £14 and concessions £7 / £9 respectively. There is a Sports’ Bar open from 12 noon at Boroughbriggs.
City are almost at full strength for the match, with the exceptions being captain Josh Walker who is out with a continued knee injury and recent signing Liam Henderson, who’s international clearence has still not come through.
In the four meetings between the sides last season, Elgin started the stronger, victorious 3-0 in the first meeting at Ainslie Park. City looked to be heading for a win in the first clash at Boroughbriggs thanks to a Farid El Alagoui goal, before an 89th minute equaliser meant a share of the spoils. City actually posted their biggest win of the season against Elgin, in the 4-0 home win in February, while we secured our SPFL status on 14 April with another 1-1 draw up north. With both teams having had positive opening day results, it is sure to be another hard-fought encounter tomorrow.
