We ended 2019 and a tough program of December matches with a solid 2-0 win against fellow promotion challengers Cowdenbeath.
The fixture computer generated a hard end to the year, with matches against all the other top four sides as well as a trip to Stirling Albion, so we rounded off this schedule at home to Blue Brazil who themselves are sitting third in the table. A combination of weather and tactics meant that the first half was largely devoid of much decent action – defences on top might be the kindest way to describe it!
Half-time City 0-0 Cowdenbeath
Whatever was said by boss James McDonaugh during the break clearly had the desired effect as City started much more on the front foot, knocking the ball about with much more intent. The deadlock was broken just after the hour mark when the deadliest duo of recent games combined yet again! A pinpoint Craig Thomson cross was met by Liam Henderson (again) who nodded home, giving the keeper no chance. City were fairly comfortable seeing out the game however any lingering hopes Gary Bollan’s men had were extinguished in the 88th minute when a long kick from Josh Rae in the City goal carried all the way through to the Cowdenbeath backline and after some hesitancy, the opportunistic Jonny Court nipped in with a neat finish to make sure the points stayed at Ainslie Park.
Full Time City 2-0 Cowdenbeath
