 Match Report - Coldstream - Premier Division - 13 Dec 2008

The pitch was heavy at Meadowbank as City returned to East of Scotland League matters after their Scottish Cup tie against Brechin.

Coldstream had the best of the early play with Tyson’s low drive going just past the post and Monteith saving at close range from D Bryden after he received Wales’ pass. Travis was able to get the better of John Hall on the left in the 18th minute before crossing for J Bryden but Monteith was able to pluck the ball out of the air before the striker could head at goal. Travis then tried his luck from distance and his effort had Monteith diving but the ball went just past the post. City’s first clear chance came after 22 minutes when Caddow received a cross-field pass and cleverly chipped the advancing Lumsden but the ball was hacked off the line by McLean. There was a moment of controversy in the 24th minute when from Taylor’s corner, Clee headed the ball down for Robbie Ross whose shot appeared to cross the line before the ball was cleared but the match officials allowed play to continue much to the annoyance of the City players. Just before the interval the ball fell to Coldstream’s Brown on the edge of the City box and his hooked shot was not too far off the mark.

Half Time: Edinburgh City 0 Coldstream 0

A mistake by John Hall in the 57th minute allowed Tyson to bear down on goal and with only Monteith to beat his low shot went past the post. City counterattacked and Caddow should perhaps have done better when he shot over from a good position. Tyson then fed the ball to Travis who volleyed from the edge of the box only to be denied a goal as Monteith dived to tip the ball away. J Bryden played a long free kick into the City box which Monteith failed to cut out under pressure but Travis’ shot was scrambled away by the City defence. MacNamara then came to City’s rescue, winning the ball from Simpson as the Coldstream striker threatened to bear down on goal. Minutes later MacNamara’s cross fell behind the Coldstream defence for Jordan Hall but Lumsden did well to block the City man’s drive at close range. In the closing stages of the match Monteith pulled off two good saves, tipping away Tyson’s drive before denying Simpson after Travis had picked him out in the box as the game finished all square.
