The top of the table clash with Cove Rangers ended in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over our Aberdeen-based rivals.
Despite the blustery conditions, both teams opened up confidently, with the ball being passed around confidently by both sides. The opening goal came after just nine minutes, when a brilliantly delivered free kick from Craig Thomson found the head of centre half Liam Henderson who bulleted a header beyond the Cove goalkeeper. City were shading possession and chances, with Marc Laird and Danny Handling being particularly effective and the lead was doubled just after the half hour, with Liam once again meeting a Thomson delivery – a corner this time – to head home. Normally when someone says a double from Henderson they mean Blair, but it was certainly Liam’s day. Heading towards the break and Cove got back into the game thanks to a brilliant overhead finish and had it not been for an outstanding Aidan McAdams save, tipping onto the bar, then they could well have leveled up before the break.
Half-time City 2-1 Cove Rangers
The second half was a more attritional affair, with the swirling wind making it more difficult for both teams to play their normal passing game. In fairness, Cove had the best of the posession and took the game to City, who defended well throughout. Aidan McAdams, himself struggling with an muscle injury which saw Conrad Balatoni take over goal kicks, made two phenomenal saves from the best of Cove’s chances. James McDonaugh’s substitutions tightened things up in the closing stages and City got their reward for their attacking intent in the first half and solid defensive performance in the second.

Man of the Match
Lots of positive performances but Liam Henderson gets the nod, not only for his goals but for his excellent defending in the second half especially.
