After a tough run of fixtures through December, it continued on into the new year with a long-distance away match versus Elgin City at Borough Briggs – somewhere that the Citizens have always struggled to get a result, having never come away with 3 points previously..

It was a closely contested battle for dominance on a heavy pitch which was proving difficult for Edinburgh City to move the ball around as they would like, but all it took was a great striker’s instinct from Scott Shepherd to separate the two sides.

Former Falkirk frontman Shepherd struck in the 27th minute, a well-placed effort into the bottom right corner following a well-worked move.

Half-time – Elgin City 0-1 Edinburgh City

Debutant goalkeeper Alan Martin, who completed his move from Lowland League champions East Kilbride last week, looked very promising with a number of solid saves to keep the Citizens ahead, especially when Martin denied Shane Sutherland with his trailing hand, who was straight through on the hour mark.

Potentially another injury for James McDonaugh to worry about after Citizen-winger, Allan Smith, went down and stayed down until he was aided off the park by the club doctor in the 78th minute, which would end up resulting in 7 minutes additional time, however, Edinburgh City managed to keep things tight at the back and walked away with their first 3 points ever at Borough Briggs.
