The Cup dream ended for another year with a sobering defeat at Premiership Hamilton.
Andy Dales and Andy Winter scored debut goals as Hamilton swept past Edinburgh City to reach the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.
On-loan winger Dales nodded in from an Aaron McGowan cross shortly after hitting the crossbar with a header.
Scott McMann drilled in the second and Scott Martin made it three before half-time with a deflected strike.
Substitute Winter curled in a fine fourth, with Mickel Miller wrapping up the victory with a close-range header.
Accies made four changes from their last Premiership outing of 2019, with Dales making an early impression – thudding the goalframe with a header from a McGowan delivery before tucking away another terrific set-up from the full-back.
Miller then brought a good save from Alan Martin with a shot on 23 minutes and, from the corner, Accies worked the ball to McMann who blasted in the second from 20 yards.
Martin then scored his first goal for the club when his 25-yard effort took a wicked deflection past his namesake.
Hamilton 3-0 City
The second half didn’t live up to the action of the first. Edinburgh City only had a Danny Handling free-kick to give their 100 travelling supporters any hope, before 17-year-old Winter grabbed the fourth and Miller headed in the fifth.
Hamilton 5-0 City
Hamilton head coach Brian Rice: “We started really well and put it to bed in the first half. I’m delighted for both Andy Dales and Andy Winter and it’s great to get Dales in as I have been after him for a while.
“That’s three out of the last four we have won and that is great for confidence. A cup run would be great if we could get it, but we are clear the priority is to stay in the Premiership.”
