Edinburgh City FC Confirms New Matchday

The Club is pleased to be able to update our fans on an exciting new development that we hope will prove popular and benficial for the Club on and off the park.

With our SPFL tenure now entering its sixth season we are looking to build on the solid foundations that we have built; clearly our long-term plan is dependant on being able to field a successful team and this is something we are working extremely hard to acheive, however to do this we need to increase our income. This is the biggest challenge facing all football teams and it has been brought even more sharply into focus against the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic which has had such a devastating impact on sport and life in general over the last fourteen months or so.

Our existing fans have been overwhelmingly generous in their financial backing throughout the pandemic, but in order to increase our turnover it is clear we need to attract more fans through the turnstiles and boost our attendences, which have remained fairly consistent since our return to senior football. We often hear from Edinburgh sports fans that they always look out for our result and would love to come and see our matches if they had the chance, so with this in mind we started to think outside the box about how best to make this possible. We are now delighted to annouce that for season 2021/22, Friday night football will be coming to Edinburgh! All our home matches will be under the lights on Friday nights, which we hope will allow a much greater opportunity for anyone interested in Edinburgh City to come and watch our matches, leaving their weekend free. We hope Friday nights can become an iconic element of football in Edinburgh and the East of Scotland.

We must extend our sincere thanks to the SPFL board for their help and cooperation in accomodating our request and also the majority of our fellow League 2 teams who backed the venture; if there is a positive to come out of the pandemic it is without doubt the spirit of  collaboration that has developed out of this adversity and we are extremely grateful. As the season progresses and as government guidelines permit, we will be releasing details of a variety of different and exciting corporate packages for Friday night games.

At this stage we are also able to update you on the progress of our move “home” to Meadowbank. The project has been unavoidably delayed due to the impact of Covid, however thanks to the hard work of Edinburgh Council and the on-site contractors, it is anticipated the ground will be ready for handover to the council in October. In the interim we are pleased to confirm that we have agreed a deal with the Spartans Community Academy to continue playing our home matches at Ainslie Park until Meadowbank is open; our thanks go to Craig Graham and Debbi McCulloch for their continued assistance and we look forward to working with them over the next few months.

We will shortly be announcing details of our matchday pricing structure and our season ticket packages, so please keep an eye on our social media channels and our website for details of these and lots of other exciting announcements in the very near future.
