We maintained our top of the table position with a hard fought win against Annan Athletic
Recap
City earned another hard fought victory today with a win against Peter Murphy’s Annan Athletic.
Both teams played a very physical game from the start, with City pressing high up the pitch. The first real pressure saw a stramash in the Annan box where several City players have efforts blocked before eventually the ball was cleared. Blair Henderson and Robbie McIntyre both had decent effforts saved and Danny Handling blasted high and wide and while City shaded the possession and pressure, the half looked to be heading for stalemate until Craig Thomson fed Blair Henderson on 43 minutes and the in-form hitman buried a great shot into the bottom corner.
The second half was equally physical but again City had the better of the play and the chances, with both Robbie McIntyre and Conrad Balatoni having good chances saved from corners. Danny Handling had another good chance but sadly he missed the target and heading into the last ten minutes it looked as though one goal would win it, however Craig Thomson once again set up Blair Henderson with a superb cross and the striker guided a header past the keeper to give City the lead they merited on the balance of play.
Annan weren’t done however and they threw everything into the closing stages, eventually forcing a free kick which Ryan Sinnamon brilliantly dispatched into the top corner to set up a nervous last five minutes. Annan tried to press, however City saw our the game with some experienced play and deservedly claimed all three points.
Hard luck to a very game and strong Annan Athletic but City’s quality won the day.
