A bad day at the office saw us go down 1-0 to a strong Clyde
Like the Matrix says, everything that has a beginning has an end and so our great winning run ended against a strong and well-organised Clyde at a windy Ainslie Park.
Playing into the wind City failed to settle from the off, struggling to get the ball down in the blustery conditions. There were half chances from an Alan Smith cross which Blair Henderson almost connected with but otherwise chances were few. Clyde began to dominate with the wind at their backs and their pressure told when John Rankin unleashed a great drive into the bottom corner. Only a combination of the post and an unbelievable save from Calum Antell kept David Goodwillie form adding to Clyde’s tally before halftime. The closest City came to getting a goal was a strong penalty shout when Blair went down in the box but the referee waved away the claims.
Despite starting the second half with a rocket from Robbie McIntyre which the Clyde keeper had to beat away, the pattern was pretty similar to the first half, with Clyde bossing the game. In truth there were few chances in the second 45 although City did put a run of corners together which lead to some half chances, but ultimately the result was a fair one for Danny Lennon’s side.
Obviously a disappointing result but to be in November and be only a point off the top would have been considered a great place to be back in August. It’s also a sign of our progress to see how much the win meant to the Clyde management, players and supporters.
